Gallery Talk and Visit to Smith College Print Workshop
Join members for a gallery talk on More Than You Know: Works by Whitfield Lovell, with Aprile Gallant, exhibition curator and SCMA Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, followed by a visit to the Smith College Print Workshop to observe Whitfield Lovell collaborate with a master printer on a limited-edition print. This event is part of Whitfield Lovell’s week-long artist residency at Smith College.

The Eighth Annual Dulcy Blume Miller Lecture in Art: Artist Whitfield Lovell

The Eighth Annual Dulcy Blume Miller Lecture in Art will be delivered by Whitfield Lovell, a contemporary artist known for creating emotionally moving artworks that engage themes of memory, history, and ancestry. A recipient of numerous awards and grants, including a MacArthur Fellowship in 2007, Lovell creates meticulously-drawn portraits of African-Americans based on vintage photographs, juxtaposing these images with resonant objects.
Whitfield Lovell’s work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Art, as well as the Smith College Museum of Art (SCMA). More Than You Know: Works by Whitfield Lovell is on view at the Smith College Museum of Art January 28–May 1, 2011.
