This exhibition was inspired by two works in our collection -Eighteen Rows and Joie et Nuit (Joy and Night). SCMA’s is the first exhibition to concentrate on the artist’s work in this country in over fifty years, and the first monographic exhibition organized by an American museum. It includes her signature optical lens boxes, assemblages, stone reliefs, drawings and other works produced during this prolific period in her career from 1962-1972.
The catalog includes and introduction by Linda Muehlig, Curator of Painting and Sculpture and Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs at SCMA. Essays are by Kerstin Skrobanek, Liz Kotz and musicologist and musician, Paul V. Miller. There are over 60 color plates and 17 black and white photographs.
