Maura May, Smith class of 1983

I saw this painting 10 years ago and it stopped me in my tracks.  The artist holds an infant on her lap with one hand, and works on her canvas with the other.  An older child leans against her mother, watching.  The kitchen behind the trio is a wreck, but the artist MUST paint, MUST work.  This painting is so relevant to artists with children.  Katy is making a choice—to let the housework go, and keep working—that presents a struggle for many women.  It should be on permanent display.
