GRADUATE STUDENT PROFILES
Peter Schmitz, 1982
Peter Schmitz has been attempting to support himself as a creative artist from a time even before attending Smith College as a graduate student in dance/choreography. After graduation, strengthened with a refreshed clarity of vision on his choregraphic and teaching approaches gained through the articulate and thoughtful guidance provided by his professors, he has worked as an artist in residence in various dance/theater programs through out the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Some of those appointments included Middlebury College, New York University, Rhode Island College, Emerson College. Bennington College, University of Iowa, University of Michigan and School for New Dance Development (Amsterdam).
As a professional modern dancer Peter performed with Creach and Company (based in New York City) for over 10 years as well as creating work with numerous companies as a free lance choreographer the most recent being the professional modern dance company of Turkey.
For the past 10 years Peter has been concentrating on his work as an actor, he is a member of Actor's Equity Association, as well as a movement designer for theater. Recent performance experiences include roles in : "Scenes From an Execution," "Love Song of the Electric Bear," "Ghosts," "Bent," "No End of Blame" and "Balcony." Companies for whom Peter has done movement staging include: Potomac Theater Project, The Medicine Show, New World Theater. Peter lives in Brooklyn, New York.
