HIGH HOLIDAYS

Note from Jennifer L. Walters, Dean of Religious Life
September 5, 2012

Welcome (back) to Smith!  The Jewish High Holidays are approaching and we want you to know about kosher dining and High Holiday services at Smith.

We are delighted to welcome back (by popular demand!) our Hebrew College intern, Becky Silverstein’04, to lead services this year. Becky was in the first class of Smith engineering graduates and is undertaking rabbinical studies. She has returned from a year in Israel.

Erev Rosh Hashanah service will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 16th at the Helen Hills Hills Chapel, followed by a special kosher dinner at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumnae House Conference Room. The following day, Monday, September 17th, Rosh Hashanah service begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Bodman Lounge on the chapel’s lower level. A leisurely Tashlich picnic by the boat house on Paradise Pond will take place at 12:00 p.m. (rain location: Bodman Lounge). All members of the Smith community are welcome, even if they are not Jewish.

Our kosher dining facility in Cutter-Ziskind is supervised by David Aminia. He is the ritual leader at Congregation Beth El in Springfield and affiliated with the Springfield Va’ad Hakashrut. Our chef is Hilary Mikucki.

Please note that all reserved meals are prepared for you and will be labeled with your name. This makes it obvious which meals you do or do not pick up. Only request meals you will eat!

Please fill out the special High Holiday meal reservation form should you wish to reserve ANY of these meals.
