In spring 2015, Smith College will award its last master’s degrees in the education of the deaf, a cooperative program of study offered by Smith and Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech. The decision to end the MED program was necessitated by declining external funding.
Founded in 1962, the MED program has graduated more than 1,500 students. Smith is proud of these alumni, many of whom now hold prominent positions in deaf education institutions around the world. Smith is also proud of its long connection to, and support of, the Clarke Schools, which provided practicum experience for the MED students over the years.
