Joshua Cherniss received his B.A. from Yale University, and is currently finishing a Ph.D. in government at Harvard University; he also holds a doctorate in history from Oxford. His research and teaching center on political theory, with special focus on the history of modern political thought (particularly in the 20th century), and contemporary debates in liberal and democratic theory and political ethics. He has also taught courses in ancient and Medieval political thought, and American politics and political thought, and has interests in European and Eastern European politics.
Cherniss is the author of a book, A Mind in its Time: The Development of Isaiah Berlin's Political Thought (Oxford University Press, 2013); and is currently working on a second book project, examining debates over the ethics of political action between critics and defenders of liberalism in the 20th century.
