The approximately 916 staff members of Smith College work in 79 different departments. As of 2012, our average length of service at the college is 13.6 years, and about 275 of us have worked at the college for more than 20 years. We are a diverse group: approximately 625 of us are women and 291 of us are men; 100 of us are Asian, African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander or multiracial.
Our mission is to provide Smith College students with exceptional and innovative services and to participate actively in their education and growth.
We base our professional lives and our work for the college on the following fundamental values:
- We are dedicated to the highest level of excellence and commit ourselves to improving the quality of life and educational experience of Smith students. We strive to identify their needs and we devote ourselves to meeting those needs.
- We are committed to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in our collaboration with students, alumnae, parents and employees. In discharging our responsibilities, we do not take professional shortcuts and our interactions reflect the high standards we profess.
- We recognize that the ability to excel—to best meet our community's needs—depends on our integrity, knowledge, imagination, skill, diversity and teamwork. To this end, we strive to create an environment of mutual respect and encouragement.
- We seek a work environment that rewards commitment and performance, supports professional development and training, and is responsive to the needs of employees and their families.
