5:00 pm Sacred Harp Demonstration Singing
  Josten Library Mezzanine

Free of charge and open to all.

Regulars from the beloved Tuesday night Sacred Harp singing at Helen Hills Hills Chapel will demonstrate shapenote singing in Josten’s soaring Mezzanine November 1 at 5 pm.  Emma Swartz ’16 and Sasha Hsuczyk ‘13HC open with Irish fiddle tunes.

Singing in the Sacred Harp (shape-note) style is participatory and open to all: all are invited to stay to sing after the demonstration. Allison Blake (Schofield) Steel ’99, a Josten alumna, and Jess Cook ’99 founded the Tuesday night singing during their student years at Smith and created an enduring cultural legacy: an opportunity for singers to step into this living folk tradition.
