Su Meck, an Ada Comstock Scholar who will graduate from Smith this May, has a remarkable life story. In 1988, when she was 22 years old, an accident in her home caused traumatic brain injury which resulted in total memory loss, the complete erasure of her past. She didn’t just forget memories of events and places, but she no longer recognized family members and friends, lost her ability to read and write, and even forgot how to tie her shoes.

book cover I Forgot to Remember by Su MeckI Forgot to Remember, published in February 2014, is her story of the past 26 years, during which she rebuilt her life from scratch. Su is now a music major, with a Book Studies Concentration, and she works in the Smith College Libraries.
