Need help?

To submit a reference question by e-mail, please use the form below. Be as specific as possible in your request. Be sure to include a complete e-mail address or we may not be able to respond to your question.

The Sophia Smith Collection provides distance reference services for these types of questions:

  • information about our collections and their contents
  • brief answers to factual questions related to our collections
  • information about other sources or places that might help to answer your question.

We do not have the capability to do extensive research for our patrons. If your question requires more than an hour's research, we will suggest that you try to schedule a visit to the Collection or hire a research assistant.

Questions that do not pertain specifically to the holdings of the Sophia Smith Collection are more appropriately addressed to your local library.

E-mail questions are usually retrieved once a day, and cannot always be acted upon immediately. You can also contact us by telephone at 413-585-2970, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Photocopies: Researchers may wish to purchase photocopies of primary source materials to help them in their research. For more information, see Photocopying Services.
