Before submitting the reference request form below, please note the types of reference questions that we can and cannot answer:
Archivists at the Sophia Smith Collection welcome questions regarding the nature, contents and extent of the specific papers and records under our care. We cannot supply answers to general questions on the history of women (see General Women's History Resources). We can direct researchers to primary source material (that is, letters, diaries, photographs, and other personal papers and organizational records) held by the Sophia Smith Collection where they may discover answers for themselves.
History Day projects
If you are a student working on a History Day project, your question may be too general for us to answer (see General Women's History Resources). However, if you have identified specific sources in our collection that would be of use in your project, we welcome your query. Be aware that we usually need at least two weeks to respond.
E-mail questions are usually retrieved once a day, and cannot always be acted upon immediately. You can also contact us by telephone at 413-585-2970, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Photocopies: Researchers may wish to purchase photocopies of primary source materials to help them in their research. For more information, see Photocopying Services.
