Maida Goodwin, Collections Archivist

Maida fell in love with archives via an undergraduate work-study job and has continued to work in archives over the past 30 years. Since 1994, she has fulfilled a variety of responsibilities in the SSC, including processing and describing collections, overseeing outreach publications, answering reference questions, writing grants, and teaching students to use primary sources. She teaches "Exploring the Archives," a gateway course in Smith's Archives Concentration curriculum.

Maida Goodwin

As Project Archivist from 2004 to 2007, Maida processed the voluminous records of the YWCA of the U.S.A. Her most recent project (2011-13) involved arrangement and description of nine manuscript collections that document 20th century U.S. women's social and political activism and the beliefs and values that drove it.

Maida has degrees in music and plant and soil science and has combined these interests with archival research in a variety of articles and presentations. She is a member of the Five College Archives and Special Collections Group and serves on the advisory committee of Smith's Archives Concentration.
