Staff profiles

Margy Jessup, Digital Resources Archivist

As Digital Resources Archivist, Margaret (Margy) Jessup facilitates access to the holdings of the Sophia Smith Collection by maintaining the SSC's website, oversees digitization projects for images and audiovisual materials, encodes finding aids for the website, catalogs collections, maintains the SSC's in-house collection management databases, and provides reference services. She also supervises student interns on digital media and web projects. As a member of the Libraries' Digital Strategies and Services Group Margy is involved in expanding online access to the Libraries' digital collections and digital preservation planning.

Margy Jessup

Margy has worked in the Sophia Smith Collection and College Archives in various capacities for over 20 years. From 1997 to 2000, she was the Project Archivist for "Agents of Social Change: Providing Access to Key Twentieth Century Women's Manuscript Collections," an NEH-funded processing project. She represents Special Collections on the Web Coordinating Team of the Smith College Libraries and is a member of the Five Colleges Archivists and Manuscript Collections Group.

Margy has a Master's degree in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Archival Administration from Simmons College, Boston. She earned a B.A. in History from the University of Massachusetts--Amherst and did undergraduate study in Women's Studies at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH. She is a member of the Society of American Archivists and New England Archivists.
