As the academic and administrative leader for the School, the dean will be an expert in the field who can lead the conceptualization and execution of a vision for a leading graduate school for social work that will inspire and motivate faculty, students, and alumni. The dean will work with faculty and students to establish a strategy for the development of a range of academic programs of distinction, to secure the School as a leader in the social work profession. The dean will set the standard for intellectual accomplishment for a diverse and dynamic student body and for a faculty whose research interests are broad in scope and international in reach. As a sound fiscal manager, the dean will create the environment to build the School's resources. The dean's responsibilities encompass hiring, faculty development, curriculum and the various degree programs, fieldwork, student services, admissions, financial aid, continuing education and budget. In conducting this work, the dean will collaborate with the president and the provost, and other senior officers in the college. The dean reports to the provost and dean of the faculty, who serves as the chief academic officer and is the president's second in command.
The dean oversees a budget of more than $6 million and provides leadership for the School's 16 resident faculty, 100 affiliated adjunct faculty in the summer, 50 field advisers, 100 research advisers and community project advisers in the winter fieldwork blocks and 22 staff members.
