Celebrated Children's Authors and Illustrators Hosted by Smith College Campus School Nov. 2

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Smith College will bring together 16 local names in children’s literature for a benefit book sale and signing from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2.

The annual event, called “A Celebration of Authors and Illustrators,” is organized by the Smith College Campus School and will take place at the Campus School, located at 33 Prospect St. It is free and open to the public.

Proceeds from the book sale will benefit Reach Out and Read, a national nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms across the nation.

Authors and illustrators attending the event include Patricia MacLachlan, author of the Newbery Medal Winner “Sarah, Plain and Tall,” and Grace Lin, author and illustrator of the 2009 Parents’ Choice Gold Winner “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.”

The other authors and illustrators presenting will be Anna Alter, Jeannine Atkins, Marguerite Davol, Diane deGroat, Barbara Diamond Goldin, Brooke Dyer, Jane Dyer, Jeff Mack, Rich Michelson, Michael Nelson, Shelley Rotner, Heidi E. Y. Stemple, Mo Willems and Kevin Markey.

Founded in 1926, the Smith College Campus School is a co-educational laboratory day school enrolling 270 children from Northampton and the surrounding communities in kindergarten through Grade 6. The school has a regular practice of community service that focuses on a range of local, national and international issues and needs.
