Pet-a-Pet Day Spring 2012

A Report by Allison Ristaino '14

Pet-a-Pet day is a time for relaxation and healing with the help of some furry friends!

On Tuesday night, I reminded my housemates, "Tomorrow is Pet-a-Pet day!" Which resulted in shouts of joy throughout the common room. Pet-a-Pet day is one of everyone's favorite events on campus. Students, faculty, and community members gather outside the Chapel to relax with their friends, pet some adorable dogs, and enjoy great snacks. Inside the Chapel, cider donuts, apple cider, candy, and other treats were offered for all to enjoy. "This is my favorite day of both semesters!" one student exclaimed, running out of the chapel with a snack to pet another dog. "We even had a few UMass kids who had heard about the event take the bus over to join!" one dog-owner commented. It was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying the weather with friends both human and canine. There were big dogs, small dogs, golden, grey, white, and brown dogs, old and young dogs. My personal favorite was a little Shih Tzu named Mei Mei. Nobody wanted the event to end. As one student put it perfectly, "I will only go back to class if I can take a puppy with me."
