Family Weekend Multifaith Service
A Report by Allison Ristaino '14
On Sunday, October 23rd, people of all ages, religions, and cultures gathered in the chapel to celebrate faith and spirituality. Hayat Abuza welcomed everyone by saying, "may the message of God reach far and wide" and acknowledging many different faiths. Each speaker lit a candle for things she found important including a candle for Smith students and their friends, one for gratitude, one for prayer and contemplation, one for those who find homes far from where they grew up, one in prayer that religion continue to have a positive light, and one in hopes that the warmth we desire in these coming cold months be found in friends and family. Songs and readings included songs in Hebrew, passages from the Qur'an, and real life experiences of Smith students. A Family Weekend choir graced us in beautiful song at the back of the chapel. The services was a welcoming and beautiful service from which all had something new to learn.
