Smith College Residence Life offers many opportunities for students to act as leaders in the Smith College community.

Coordinator of House Events (15-16 academic year)

The Coordinator of House Events (CHE) maintains all of the organizational and administrative aspects of House Social System operations on campus, including the scheduling of social events sponsored by the HSECs. The CHE reviews and updates the House Events Guide and initiates policy and procedural changes for the betterment of Social System operations and event management. They work closely with the HSECs, House Presidents, Associate Director of Residence Life, Area Coordinators, Director of Residence Life, Director of The Office of Student Engagement and the Campus Center, Assistant Directors of The Office of Student Engagement, Campus Police, the Head of Student Organizations and other appropriate student committees for planning social events.

Summer Leadership Positions

Each summer we hire 2 HRs, 2 HCs and 1 intern to work with the Office of Residence Life. Room and Board is provided for all of these position and the HRs and Intern also are paid hourly for the hours they work in Clark hall. You can read more about the specific positions in the job descriptions below.

Head Residents, House Coordinators, House Community Advisers (Academic Year Positions)

The head resident (HR) and house coordinators (HCs) are Smith seniors completing their last year of academic course work. The residence life staff members have been extensively trained for their role in the houses. They are responsible for the management and general welfare of the houses.

House Community Advisers

House community advisers (HCA) are responsible for facilitating community within the house. The HCA is a member of the administrative staff of the college for the term of her service. The HCA is extensively trained for a multiple set of responsibilities that involve a combination of managerial and interpersonal skills.

  • Your essay
  • Résumé

To apply, you will need to submit everything on the Smith Social Network. We are not accepting paper applications this year. Your reference forms should be electronically filled out and submitted. More detailed instructions can be found on the Social Network.

Applications are due Thursday, February 5th by 4pm. Each applicant will have an individual interview on either February 12th or 13th, which they will need to sign up for online, and all applicants currently on campus will participate in the group interview process on Saturday, February 14th.
