The School for Social Work is committed to providing an outstanding education in clinical social work. We understand that many students will require financial assistance to achieve this shared goal. The School offers three distinct types of aid: need-based grant, merit scholarships, and federal loan funds. Theses sources vary by program (MSW or PhD). Many aid packages are offered with a combination of these award types. Required materials and deadlines vary with the type of assistance requested.
New for 2015-16: Electronic Financial Aid Award Letters
For the 2015-16 academic year, aid award letters will no longer be mailed to returning students. Instead, each student will receive an email (sent to Smith email account) that an award letter is available to be viewed on Bannerweb. In an effort to contribute to Smith's sustainability initiatives, Student Financial Services will dramatically reduce the use of paper through this initiative, which conforms to environmental sustainability policies. This new policy will also contribute to a more efficient notification system so students will have access of their financial aid awards for the upcoming academic year sooner than with a paper mailing. We hope this will assist students with their financial planning.
