Discussion about the CET summer symposium –Tom Laughner
Tom gave the committee handouts of the evaluation of last year’s CET symposium as well as the faculty survey results on the symposium. Jefferson asked how else the monies that are currently being spent to sponsor the symposium could be spent. He wondered if using the Kahn Institute model where you invite faculty to think of a topic, establish a group, and commit to a time for a workshop might work better than the current system. Melissa suggested using social networking options could be helpful. Tom thanked the committee for their input and said he would look into the Kahn Institute model and report back.
Updates from the Director of ETS – Tom Laughner
Tom gave the committee a handout of the 3-year plan to put computers in the classrooms which should be completed in January 2010. Members of the committee said that McConnell 403 does not need an upgrade because it currently has a Smart Board and a dual boot computer. It was agreed to upgrade Bass 204 in its place. Tom and Melissa said that having similar equipment throughout the classrooms has made classroom support much more efficient. Roisin agreed and noted that this has made decision making issues about what to present in class so much better. Jefferson asked if it would be possible in the near future to upgrade the projection in Seelye 106 and 201 to HD or BluRay.
The Center for Media Production is going to be renovated and updated to make it a more appealing place to go to.
Herb told the committee that 100 more wireless access points have been identified and will be installed this year.
The next meeting will be November 19th in Seelye B4 as will all meetings this fall.
Respectfully submitted,
Constance McGinn, recorder
