Film Premier: Valley of the Forgotten featuring John Cain Carter

Valley of the Forgotten is a documentary feature that shows the conflict for land in a very secluded area of the state of Mato Grosso,Brazil where violence and fire stand for the interests of opponent groups: Indians evicted from tehri homeland, squatters trying to get a piece of land to make a living, land grabbers illegally invading properties, the Landless Workers Movement waiting for government decisions, and the ranchers fighting to hold on to their property. Reception to follow the film. This event is free and open to the public. Handicap accessible.

April Opoliner '03 is a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health in the Department of Epidemiology. Before attending HSPH, April studied neuroscience at Smith and received her MPH from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She has also worked on neurological clinical trials at Massachusetts General Hospital. April's research interests are in psychiatric epidemiology and global health. This is part of the prehealth lunch bag series at Smith.
