World on Edge: War and Peace in the Climate Age Era
December 2, 2015
The world is currently suffering from a proliferation of violent conflicts and social upheavals, including wars in Iraq, Syria. Libya, Yemen and Afghanistan, along with a massive tide of refugees seeking to escape all this violence. At the same time, we are seeing increasing evidence of the impact of climate change on human societies, in the form of droughts, floods, forest fires and coastal erosion. How will these two trends interact? Will climate change make war more or less likely? No final answer can be provided to these questions, but some trends are beginning to emerge.
