At its recent meeting, the Smith College Board of Trustees conferred emeritus status on eight Smith faculty members. They are:
- Gerald Schamess, professor, School for Social Work, who retired December 31, 2002
- Robert T. Averitt, professor of economics, who retired January 31
(The following will retire at the end of the academic year)
- Thomas S. Derr, professor of religion and biblical literature
- Peter Pufall, professor of psychology
- Donald B. Reutener, Jr., professor of psychology
- Peter Rose, Sophia Smith Professor of Sociology and Anthropology
- William Wittig, professor of music
- Joan Afferica, L. Clark Seelye Professor of History
