The Smiffenpoofs and the Vibes,
two of Smith’s renowned a cappella singing groups, are
sure to be in fine form the weekend of October 15-16, when
they headline Faneuil Hall Marketplace’s College Songfest
in Boston. The two groups were recently chosen among New England’s
top a cappella groups to be part of the program.
From singers at Simmons College
to those from Boston University, and Wheaton to College of
the Holy Cross, 17 of the top a cappella groups from eight
institutions in the region will hit the Faneuil Hall stage
between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. both days at the city’s popular
landmark.
The college groups, known for
their high energy and enthusiasm, as well as their creative
renditions of all manner of songs, will perform vocal arrangements
of music by Billy Joel, Aerosmith, U2 and Bare Naked Ladies.
The Smith a cappella contingent
is gearing up for the event with auditions and rehearsals
since early September.
The Smiffenpoofs, the oldest
female collegiate a cappella group in the nation, recently
welcomed 10 new group members. “With all of the new
energy and voices, we are so excited for this opportunity,
and we can’t wait to represent Smith a cappella,”
exclaims Jen Maurer ’07, a Smiffenpoofs member.
Sure to be a weekend of great
music, featuring some of Smith’s finest talent, the
College Songfest is open to the public free of charge—Sarah
