Face Time

Katie Silva ’08

THE BASICS:

Where are you from?

Wilbraham, Massachusetts ('m a local...).

Did you always know you wanted to come to Smith?

This is a complicated story. I always knew I wanted to come to Smith but I did not apply as a senior in high school because my guidance counselor told me I would never get in (I don't know why she ever thought that...). So I spent my first year at Westfield State College and really did not feel the challenge I was expecting to get at college. I applied to Smith as a transfer student and came here in the fall of
2005.

NOW THE FUN STUFF:

Who gets the most face time with you?

Not who, what. I spend most of my time in front of books, reading for class. Here is a tip: don't ever take three English classes in a semester!

When was the last time you wore a dress?

At Lawrence House's polka dot tea.

What are you reading now?

I'm reading The Awakening, To the Lighthouse, War and Peace, and a child growth and development textbook. Unfortunately, I do not have any time for "pleasure" reading.

Do you eat fast food?

No way!

What to you miss most about home?

My very, very comfortable and quiet bed.

What is your favorite movie?

A Beautiful Mind.

If you suddenly had two hours of free time, what would you do?

I would probably let my brain fry in front of the television in an attempt to think about nothing.

What is your favorite wall hanging in your room?

Pictures of my 28-pound cat...he likes to eat.

Do you consider yourself as an urban, suburban, or rural person?

I'm from the suburbs but I would much rather live on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

What annoys the heck out of you?

My inability to get a sound sleep most nights.

Who are your role models?

My role models right now are my education professors and cooperating teachers at Northampton High School (I'm studying to be a teacher).

What single piece of advice would you give to President Christ?

I would like President Christ to help make Smith College more of an affordable institution for students who need financial support.
