What do you do at Smith?
I travel around various
parts of the country and visit one-on-one with Smith alumnae
who donate (or so we hope!) to the college.
How many years have you been at the college?
I started in May of 2006.
What is your busy season?
I haven't been in this job long enough to detect a slack
season.
NOW THE FUN STUFF:
Who gets the most face
time with you?
Outside of the job,
that'd be my two kids, Jack, age 8, and Miranda, age 15.
What are you reading
now?
On paper, I'm reading
Moby-Dick, which somehow
I managed to get an English degree without reading in college.
On tape, to get me to and from work, I'm currently listening
to Amy Tan's The
Bonesetter's Daughter. And on car trips to and from
my daughter's boarding school,
we're listening together to Persuasion by Jane
Austen.
What is your favorite
movie?
Adam's
Rib with Tracy and Hepburn.
If you suddenly had two
hours of free time, what would you do?
Walk to the top of Mt. Monadnock.
What is your favorite
wall hanging at home?
A landscape painting
showing a waterfall by a nearly unknown painter of the Hudson
River school.
Do you vote?
Yes.
If you could live during any period in time and in any place

and where?
New York in the 1930s.
Who does the work around your abode?
It's a fair split.
Is there any time in your life you wish you could do over?
Plenty! But in particular,
now that I work at Smith, I often wish I'd decided to attend
a small liberal-arts college instead of a big university.
What did you do before you came to Smith?
I was Director of Development for Antioch New England Graduate
School
in Keene, New Hampshire.
What single piece of
advice would you give to graduating Smithies?
Get started on your dreams right away.
