An Office Name Change: Advancement Now Development
As of July 1, the Office of Advancement will be known as the Office of Development.
The name change, resulting from a review by an ad hoc committee of the Board of Trustees, better reflects the range of services performed by the department.
“This change in department nomenclature aligns logically with the best practices in the field,” said Patricia Jackson, vice president for development. “Also, with this change, we intend to be more readily recognizable and accessible to our alumnae, parents and friends.”
The Office of Development, as it will now be known, is composed of the departments of corporate and foundation relations; donor services; planned giving; major gifts; campaign initiatives and leadership support; research; information services; the Smith Fund; international advancement; and the Smith Executive Education program.
The July 1 change includes only the office’s name; no Office of Development divisions or services will be changed as a result.
