Top Presidential Advisor
to Discuss Public Service In the Clinton Administration
Sally Katzen, senior advisor to President
Clinton and deputy director for management in the Office of Management
and Budget, will return to her alma mater to share insights from
her career in a talk at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28.
Katzen's presentation, which will focus
on public service in the Clinton administration, will take place
in Seelye Hall 201. It is free and open to the public.
Katzen, who graduated from Smith in
1964, has worked extensively in the field of administrative law,
focusing on regulatory and legislative matters. Before joining
the Clinton administration, she was a partner in the Washington,
D.C., law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. Her Clinton
administration posts have included deputy assistant to the president
for economic policy, deputy director of the National Economic
Council and administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory
Affairs in the Office of Management and Budget. She also was
a member of the Carter administration, serving as general counsel.
She has held key offices in the American
Bar Association and has taught at the Georgetown Law Center.
In addition, Katzen served as the president of the Women's Legal
Defense Fund in the mid-1970s.
