Smith Ada Comstock Scholar
Alumnae Artists to Exhibit at Forbes Library
In conjunction with the 25th anniversary
of the Ada Comstock Scholars (ACS) Program at Smith College,
works by 20 artists, all of whom graduated from the ACS program,
will be on display in the Forbes Library gallery from Oct. 6
to 28.
Juried by Smith College Museum of Art
Director Suzannah Fabing, the show will include an eclectic range
of media including oil, lithograph, hammered metal, carved plaster
and solar etching.
Of the artists and their work, ACS
Founding Director Eleanor Rothman said, "I'm excited by
the richness and variety of the submissions...Some of the artists
are working professionally in the field...[while others] are
engaged in quite different activities: one is minister to a small
church and two others are staff members at Smith and MIT."
The Ada Comstock Scholars Program,
founded in 1975, is designed for women of nontraditional college
age who wish to complete bachelor of arts degrees. Over 1,400
women have graduated from Smith in this program after fulfilling
the same requirements as traditional-aged students.
The exhibit is free and open to the
public. The Forbes Library gallery is open Monday, 1 to 9 p.m.;
Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday,
1 to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Sunday.
