NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-Beginning Thursday,
Nov. 15, Smith College's "On the Fence:
Public Art in Public Space" project will feature "Kwan
Yin," a 6-by-6-foot painting on cloth depicting the Buddhist
goddess of compassion created exclusively for the site by Northampton
artist and children's book illustrator Carlotta Hoffman.
Hoffman's piece is the fourth installation in the college's program
to create community art space from the chain-link fence surrounding
the construction of its new fine arts center next to College
Hall. "Kwan Yin" will be on display on the fence facing
Neilson Library through Dec. 15.
