NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-Sports economist,
Smith College professor and Northampton resident Andrew Zimbalist
will be a guest on "Red Sox Nation," a call-in talk
show on Northampton Community Television (NCTV), Channel 15,
from 8 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14.
Zimbalist will be discussing the baseball business, the collective
bargaining discussions and how they relate to the Red Sox and
their new owners.
Also appearing on the show will be Red Sox fan and Northampton
city councilor Bill Dwight and 7-year-old baseball-trivia guru
Jonah Hahn, who will be giving live updates direct from Fenway
Park on the Sox vs. Oakland game.
Zimbalist is the author of 13 books, including the widely acclaimed
"Baseball and Billions" and "Unpaid Professionals:
Commercialism and Conflict in Big-Time College Sports."
He has written widely on comparative economics and consulted
extensively in the sports industry. A frequent contributor to
academic journals as well as to the New York Times, Washington
Post, Sports Business Journal, New Republic, Wall Street Journal
and USA Today, he was chosen by the Village Voice as the 1998
sports journalist of the year.
Hosted by Steven Flynn, "Red Sox Nation" is aired every
second Tuesday of the month. The next show, scheduled for June
11, will feature baseball historian and writer Brian Turner of
Florence.
