Smith Invites the Public
to Learn
About Geographic Information Technology
NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-Smith College is
hosting its third annual GIS (geographic information systems)
Day on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The event is free, open to the public
and wheelchair accessible.
GIS Day is a worldwide grassroots event which showcases real-world
applications demonstrating the importance of geographic information
systems. The theme of the 2002 GIS Day at Smith is "Community
Building with GIS."
Activities include an open spatial analysis lab (SAL) featuring
hands-on GIS demonstrations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Bass Hall
105, a map gallery with pizza lunch from noon to 1 p.m. in the
McConnell Hall foyer, and GIS presentations by Smith faculty,
students, staff and GIS professionals from Northampton from 4:15
to 5:30 p.m. in Engineering 202.
Plan to attend one or all events and find out why GIS is such
an exciting and rapidly expanding technology.
