Noteable Alumnae To Help Celebrate Dedication of Leo Weinstein Auditorium at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- On Sunday, April 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Smith College, the former Wright Hall Auditorium will be dedicated to the late Leo Weinstein, Esther Cloudman Dunn Professor of Government, beloved faculty member at Smith from 1952 to 1991 who passed away in 1999.

A bronze plaque designed by sculptor and Smith art professor Elliot Offner will be unveiled at the ceremony, which will take place in the auditorium located in the lower level of Wright Hall. The auditorium, which over the years has served as a venue for numerous campus and community events, will now be known as the Leo Weinstein Auditorium.

Following the ceremony, from 1:45 to 3:45 p.m., feminist legal scholar Catherine MacKinnon and former advisor to President Clinton Sally Katzen along with several other distinguished alumnae, all former students of Weinstein, will discuss his significant influence on their lives and careers in law and government. A reception will follow at 4 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.
