Smith College Appoints New HR Director
NORTHAMPTON, Mass.–Lawrence P. Hunt, currently assistant director of human resources at the J. Paul Getty Trust, has been named executive director of human resources at Smith College.
Prior to joining Getty in Los Angeles, Hunt was director of human resources at Tufts University in Boston, where he worked for 18 years. He will begin his position at Smith on March 1.
“Larry is a wonderful addition to Smith,” said Ruth Constantine, vice president of finance and administration. “He builds strong relationships with faculty and staff and translates his knowledge of people into the creation of programs and policies to support employees.”
Hunt comes to Smith with extensive experience in complex academic settings. The J. Paul Getty Trust is an international cultural and philanthropic institution with an educational purpose that is devoted to the arts and humanities. At Tufts, Hunt directed university-wide employment and employee-relations efforts for three campuses and more than 1,200 staff.
While employed at Tufts, Hunt completed his graduate certificate program in mediation/dispute relation at the University of Massachusetts, for which he performed an internship as a mediator in the court system. Hunt earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and business administration at the University of San Francisco.
Smith College employs about 1,200 people with an average length of service of 12 years. In 2004, some 200 employees had worked at the college for more than 20 years.
