Smith Board Approves Faculty Promotions
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – At its March meeting, the Smith College Board of Trustees approved tenure and promotion recommendations for 22 faculty members.
Promoted to full professor from associate professor were Raphael Atlas, music; Nalini Bhushan, philosophy; Rodger Blum, dance; Anna Botta, Italian language and literature; Lois Dubin, religion; Gregory White, government; and Nancy Whittier, sociology.
Promoted to associate professor with tenure from assistant professor were Floyd Cheung, English language and literature; Dawn Fulton, French studies; Andrew Guswa, engineering; Adam Hall, biological sciences; Nicholas Horton, mathematics and statistics; Alexandra Keller, film studies; Katwiwa Mule, comparative literature and Afro-American studies; Donna Riley, engineering; Kevin Rozario, American studies; Kevin Shea, chemistry; Susan Voss, engineering; Steve Waksman, music; Lynne Yamamoto, art; and Suzanne Z. Gottschang, anthropology.
In addition, Joel Pitchon, associate professor of music, received tenure.
Smith is consistently ranked among the nation’s foremost liberal arts colleges. Enrolling 2,800 students from every state and 60 other countries, Smith is the largest undergraduate women’s college in the country.
