Smith to Host Five College Student PoetryFest
NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—The sixth annual Five College PoetryFest will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Stoddard Auditorium, Smith College. The event is free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible.
The brainstorm of Lorna Peterson, executive director of Five Colleges, Inc., and Ellen Watson, director of Smith’s Poetry Center, the PoetryFest celebrates the quality and range of student poetry in the Valley with two writers representing each of the colleges and the University of Massachusetts. The inaugural Poetryfest was held at Smith in 2002 and, thereafter, rotated among the other institutions. This year, the Poetryfest returns to Smith.
Student participants will be Neal Allar and Kate Robinson, Amherst College; Unique Robinson and Shira Ehrlichman, Hampshire College; Sarah Binns and Christine Brown, Mount Holyoke College; Kimberley Rogers and Georgia Pearle, Smith College; and Ted Powers and Jaclyn Simoneau, University of Massachusetts. Each student will read for five minutes. The reading will be followed by a reception, and booklets of the students’ work will be available, free, to the public.
For further information, contact Cindy Furtek in the Poetry Center office at (413) 585-4891 or Watson at (413) 585-3368.
