Smith Alumnae Quarterly Goes
Gold
Citing its range of topics and quality
of writing and design, the Council for Advancement and Support
of Education (CASE) recently awarded the Smith Alumnae Quarterly
its highest publishing prize: a gold medal for best college general
interest magazine.
CASE is an international organization
made up of advancement professionals, administrators, and editors.
Its Circle of Excellence awards are presented annually in nearly
45 categories in areas of alumni programming, institutional relations,
and communications.
In making their final decisions, the
judges noted that the Quarterly is a "superb" publication
that is "coherently and clearly designed and edited"
and boasts an "impressive range" of feature articles.
John MacMillan, editor of the Quarterly,
said the award is especially impressive because it validates
the work of the magazine's many contributors, including Smith
faculty, staff, and alumnae. "Putting the magazine together
and keeping it interesting is a team effort, and it's wonderful
to have all that talent recognized by our peers," he said.
Since 1998, the Quarterly has received
a number of Circle of Excellence awards from CASE, including
a gold for Magazine Publishing Improvement and two bronze medals
for best College General Interest Magazine.
