Smith to Sponsor Teach-In
About War in Kosovo
Smith College will again host a teach-in
on the war in Kosovo, this time focusing on the politics of NATO
intervention. The event, which is free and open to the public,
will take place from 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 26, in Stoddard Auditorium.
Discussion will be moderated by Marjorie
Senechal, Louise Wolff Kahn Professor of Mathematics at Smith
College and co-author of "Long Life to Your Children! A
Portrait of High Albania."
The following panelists will speak
at the teach-in:
- Fred Abrahams, a New York-based researcher
for Human Rights Watch who has made numerous trips to Albania
and other parts of the region;
- Michael Klare, Five College professor
of peace and world security studies and director of the Five
College Peace and World Security Studies Program at Hampshire
College; author of "Rogue States and Nuclear Outlaws";
- Vincent Ferraro, Ruth C. Lawson professor
in international politics at Mount Holyoke College and a supporter
of NATO actions in Kosovo;
- Karl Ryavec, longtime professor of
political science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst
and an expert on East European politics and Russian studies.
