Frisch to Deliver Miller
Lecture
Dr. Rose E. Frisch, a researcher at
the Harvard University Center for Population and Development
Studies and professor emerita at the Harvard School of Public
Health, will deliver the Dulcy B. Miller Memorial Lecture at
Smith College at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, in Stoddard
Hall Auditorium.
The lecture is free and open to the
public.
Frisch, a Smith alumna from the class
of 1939, will address "Fatness, Fertility, and Long-Term
Health." Her research has shown that environmental factors
of nutrition, physical activity and disease can affect reproductive
milestones ranging from menarche to menopause.
The Dulcy B. Miller Memorial Lecture
focuses on women's health issues. Previous speakers have included
former Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders, breast care specialist
Dr. Susan M. Love, and former director of the Food and Drug Administration
Dr. David M. Kessler.
Miller, a 1946 Smith graduate, was
a teacher, manager, lecturer and writer in health care administration,
with a particular interest in long-term care. The lecture series
was endowed by her husband, Dr. Michael B. Miller, in her memory.
