Actress Mimi Kennedy in Residence
at Smith
Actress Mimi Kennedy, currently starring
as Abby O'Neill, mother of Dharma on the Golden Globe-Nominated
ABC Hit Sitcom "Dharma & Greg," will be an alumna-in-residence
at Smith College Feb. 16-19.
Reporters and photographers will have
an opportunity to interview Kennedy on Thursday, Feb. 17, from
10:30 a.m. noon, when she attends an acting class taught
by Professor Ellen Kaplan. The class meets in room T100 (television
studio) in the theatre building of the Mendenhall Center for
the Performing Arts, Green Street.
Kennedy, who graduated from Smith in
1970, first gained visibility as one of three hosts of the mid-1970s
variety series "Three Girls Three." Viewers will also
remember her as Ruth Sloane in the early-90s series "Homefront"
and later as Eleanor Burton on the nighttime soap "Savannah."
On March 17, Kennedy will appear as Laura Ambrosino in the new
Universal Pictures movie "Erin Brockovich," starring
Julia Roberts.
The alumna-in-residence program, now
in its third year, provides opportunities for current students
to meet and socialize with accomplished alumnae in informal settings.
The program reflects the college's broader goal of helping students
learn about and examine a wide range of life choices. Past alumnae-in-residence
have included renowned author Madeleine L'Engle, a 1941 graduate
of Smith; Voice of America journalist Edie Smith, a 1961 graduate;
and filmmaker Maria Maggenti, a 1986 graduate.
Enrolling 2,800 students from every state and 50 other countries,
Smith is the largest undergraduate women's college in the United
States.
