Smith School for Social Work
Hosts Community Information Day
Area undergraduates interested in careers in mental health
or social work need look no farther than their own backyard when
deciding post-graduation plans. The Smith College School for
Social Work (SSW), which offers master's and doctoral degrees
in social work with a concentration in clinical practice, is
one of the oldest and most distinguished schools for clinical
social work in the United States.
Find out more about Smith's SSW at its annual community information
day on Saturday, December 5, in Wright Hall auditorium. The session
will begin at 2 p.m. with presentations by the dean, directors
of financial aid and of field work and students currently enrolled
in the program, followed by a question and answer period. After
the brief presentations, small groups will gather with SSW faculty
for more in-depth discussion about Smith's program as well as
the field of social work in general.
Founded in 1918, Smith's SSW has long been a leading institution
for clinical social work education, offering a course of study
based on a unique block plan that integrates theory and practice.
Master's degree candidates attend three ten-week academic summer
sessions at Smith while obtaining practical experience through
two eight-month field placements during intervening winters.
