Ask any Smith undergraduate about the life
of a college student and you’ll get scores of details as disparate as the songs
in her iPod. There is no one way to capture the day-to-day life of a “typical” student.
Still, in the vibrant and intellectually charged environment of the Smith campus,
students are passionate about their education and go about their lives with an energetic
intent, whether they are dashing across campus to class; munching on hot turkey sandwiches
and chocolate streusel bars at lunch; sending e-mails to professors in the wee small
hours of the night; sprinting through a spring rainstorm to catch live music downtown
on a Friday night; or reading, writing and casting wide nets of intellectual inquiry
across a sea of classrooms. Senior April Simpson spent some time this semester with
Lindsey Allen ’08, Rebecca Berman ’06 and Jessica Chiang ’07 and
wrote the following series to document A Day in the Life for each.
