What We Heard About Campus Safety: Playback Session November 19

Thursday, November 14, 2019

Dear students, staff and faculty:

Earlier this semester, the ad-hoc Campus Safety Advisory Group (CSAG) held a series of open forums and small-group meetings to solicit feedback on the future of campus safety at Smith. I am pleased to report that, through the nearly 50 on-campus sessions held to date, CSAG has received direct and helpful feedback from more than 425 members of the community. In keeping with CSAG’s commitment to a transparent and responsive process, I write to share the playback document of those sessions.

Additionally, CSAG will hold a drop-in playback session from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, in the Conference Center Oak Room for anyone who has further questions or comments on the future of campus safety or on the feedback received to date. Pizza will be provided for the first 40 attendees. As always, you can submit feedback through the CSAG website or by reaching out to any member of the committee.

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to meet with the committee in person or provide comments. Your feedback will inform a series of recommendations that CSAG will present to President McCartney by January 2020, so that Smith is positioned to put in place a re-envisioned campus safety department on July 1, 2020.
