Smith Fund Raises $3.25 Million for Scholarships During December Challenge
Published May 27, 2023
It was an ambitious goal: Raise $3.1 million in 31 days for scholarship aid. Thanks to 5,105 generous donors, Essential Smith: The December Giving Challenge surpassed that goal, raising $3.25 million and helping to empower hundreds of Smith students to launch bright futures. Alumnae including Martha “Mardee” Brown ’77 and members of the Class of 1970 provided matching gifts. Donations of any size help Smith meet its promise to provide an exceptional education to all students, regardless of their financial need, and the college is grateful to everyone who participated in the challenge.
“I wouldn't have applied to Smith if I hadn’t dared to hope to receive financial aid,” says Belise Bwiza ’20. “I also came to realize that if a school like Smith could use their resources to invest in me, it meant that I was actually worth something and that I would do big things in life,” she says.
Smith College attracts the best and brightest students from around the world and ensuring access to education is the college’s top priority. See our scholarship aid page to give a gift and learn more about scholarships at Smith. See the results of the challenge at the challenge website.
