Banner & BannerWeb
Banner & BannerWeb
Banner is an integrated database application used in all administrative offices at Smith. In addition, some Banner data can be accessed by students, faculty, and staff via BannerWeb, a web-based interface to the Banner system.
Banner Administrative System
The Banner system is made up of several functional modules (General, Student, Financial Aid, Alumni/Development, Finance, and Position Control/Payroll) which facilitate the processing of all administrative data from prospect-tracking through advancement. Smith began implementing this system in May 1994, and all modules have been in use since the summer of 1998. There are approximately 500 Banner users on campus.
Banner is maintained and supported by the staff of the Administrative Technology Services (ATS) unit of ITS. This group of analysts is responsible for protecting the stability and integrity of the system, installing new modules and enhancements as appropriate, and ensuring that Banner is accessible to users when needed.
Banner documentation is available on the ATS website, and can be reviewed or printed. Banner training is provided by ITS and the Controller's Office staff as needed. Check with your Department Systems Coordinator or ITS Liaison if you are unsure about the use of Banner in your department. If you wish to apply for a Banner account, please contact the IT Service Center.
BannerWeb
BannerWeb has been available to the Smith community since the spring of 1999, and can be accessed via the Smith Portal. portal.smith.edu. The BannerWeb modules give all members of the Smith community access to their personal records in the college database via the Internet:
- BannerWeb for Students gives students access to grades, transcripts, financial aid and billing data, course schedules and on-line registration.
- BannerWeb for Faculty lets faculty members and advisors view their teaching schedules, check advisees' schedules, view and print class lists, view course schedules, view advisees' transcripts, and register advisees for courses on-line.
- BannerWeb for Employees gives all Smith employees access to their payroll and benefits information, as well as their personal demographic and employment data.
All BannerWeb modules are hosted on a Verisign-Certified secure web server. All traffic between the server and your computer is encrypted to ensure that data cannot be intercepted as it travels across the network.
Access to BannerWeb is restricted to active students, faculty, and staff. If you have questions about access, students should contact the IT Service Center (x4487) and staff and faculty should contact Human Resources (x2260). For more information, see: www.smith.edu/its/tara/bannerweb.html
