Faculty Computer Access Program (FCAP)

Faculty Computer Access Program (FCAP)

The Faculty Computer Access Program (FCAP) provides Smith faculty members with standard microcomputer hardware and software in support of word processing, network access, and electronic communications. This four-year upgrade program maintains a microcomputer infrastructure consistent with Smith's evolving campus-wide information network.

To request a microcomputer or an upgrade for your current college machine, please use our on-line form to tell us about your computing needs, including:

  • The type of computer you prefer (Macintosh or PC)
  • Any special requirements, such as a foreign language keyboard

The Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) is currently provided with each Windows and Macintosh computer. If you also require a database program, Access (for the PC) and Filemaker Pro (for the Mac) are available upon request. Support for these standard applications is provided by the IT Service Center, ext. 4487.

The Committee on Educational Technology (CET) determines the standards and policies for hardware and software annually. New FCAP microcomputers are distributed in January and June, and for new faculty in the fall. Faculty may also request funding for academic software from the CET. For information about current programs, see the CET web site at www.smith.edu/cet.

Educational Technology Services staff will coordinate the delivery of your equipment and provide any orientation you may need. If you have any questions regarding your hardware or software installation, please contact Greg Coccoluto at x2645.

Note: For information about laptops for JYA Directors, contact Greg Coccoluto at x2645.
