Call for Student Nominations for the Committee on Mission and Priorities

The president’s office seeks nominations for a student to serve on the Committee on Mission and Priorities for the 23-24 academic year. Please read this entire message for details.

Requirements:

  • We are accepting self-nominations only, because a statement of intent is required
  • Must be a sophomore, junior, senior or second semester or later Ada Comstock scholar or transfer student
  • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Must be physically on campus to attend in person meetings during the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters
  • Must be able to attend the first meeting from 12:15-1:15 pm on October 11
  • Must be interested in the work outlined in the committee charge located in the Faculty Code of Governance, which states in part:

The Committee on Mission and Priorities advises the President on big-picture and long-range planning that supports the mission and core values of the College. The committee’s purview includes but is not limited to financial, personnel, physical, and curricular decision-making. See Code of Faculty Governance Section VI.C.7.b

Time Commitment:

  • Selected student will serve for the 23-24 academic year 
  • The time commitment is 2-3 in-person meetings per semester held during the 12:15-1:15 lunch break, with lunch served
  • We will start with a meeting from 12:15-1:15 pm on October 11. You must be able to attend this first meeting  
  • There is not much homework to do outside of the meetings, other than read the agenda and any attachments in advance of the meetings 

How to Nominate Yourself:

Students interested in self nominating must register as a candidate in the SGA Fall 2023 Election through the SGA page under Forms on the Smith Social Network. Each candidate will be required to to submit, along with their application, a statement of intent describing why you are interested in this committee and how you are qualified to serve. Registration for the election will close on September 17th.
