Status & Operating Modes

Day-to-day life on campus will be guided by green/yellow/orange/red operating modes, with the progression of colors designating least to most restrictive modes. The operating mode will be determined by pandemic conditions on our campus, in the city of Northampton and in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. The college will move between modes as necessary.


 
Current Status: GREEN
 
Summary COVID rates on campus are low and do not appear to be increasing.
Residential Life On-campus students may visit other on-campus students’ rooms and houses. Vaccinated external guests are allowed and must follow all Smith health and safety protocols.
Dining No additional restrictions.
Learning Mode In-person classes.
Testing Testing is required twice weekly for students and employees.

 

 

Masking

No single-layer cloth face coverings, such as neck gaiters or bandanas. Cloth masks must be at least two layers. Surgical or KN95/KF94 masks are strongly encouraged.

Contact Tracing Individuals who test positive will receive an email and phone interview. Students Residential students who test positive will be moved temporarily to isolation housing or isolate in their room if in a single room. Students

Traditional Housing Vaccinated external invited guests are allowed to be hosted in residences. Guests must follow all Smith health and safety protocols as well as housing rules.   Smith students are allowed to visit other residence halls. Student Meetings, gatherings, activities and Affinity Groups All guests and gatherings are allowed. External presenters, trainers, or lecturers are allowed on campus, but must follow visitor guidelines.   In-person gatherings are limited to members of the Smith community in the testing program; virtual meetings are strongly encouraged. In all cases, gatherings (other than classes) will be limited to whichever is lower: 50 people or 50% of room capacity.   No gatherings are allowed. Exceptions are rarely approved by CIRT.
