Summer 2021 Guidelines

This summer, the Smith College campus will run limited operations to support in-person student internships and work, faculty research and precollege programming. All other activities will remain in remote mode. Summer pandemic protocols are outlined below.



Summer Guidelines

Masking

Outdoors & Indoors Masks are welcome indoors and outdoors. Masks are required indoors for those not fully vaccinated.

Distancing

All locations There are no distancing restrictions at this time.

Screening

Students/Precollege Once per week.
Faculty/Staff Once per week.

Students

Traditional housing Students must participate in the community screening program. Single room occupancy.
Off-campus housing Students must register for, and participate in, the community screening program to access campus buildings.
Off-campus travel There are no student travel restrictions at this time.
Dining Dining halls are open with reduced seating. Visit the dining website for more information.
Visitors Students may host visitors in on campus residences. Visitors must follow all Smith health and safety protocols. External visitors are not allowed in other campus buildings or dining facilities.
Campus Center Campus Center is open. Visit the Campus Center website for more information.
Campus Center Café Open M-F using GrubHub.
Meetings, gatherings, student activities and affinity groups In-person meetings allowed. Food at indoor gatherings is allowed.
Health and wellness services from the Schacht Center Schacht Center is open with limited hours and services. Visit the Schacht Center website for more information.
Olin Fitness Center and athletics facilities Open to student interns, student workers and program participants in the community testing program.
On-campus employment In-person campus work and internships allowed.
In-person, off-campus internships (e.g., Praxis) Allowed with permission from the program manager. See the Praxis/Lazarus Center website for details.
Student van/vehicle use Van use allowed.
Faculty labs/shared academic support spaces Available with permission of manager or faculty member.
Building access Available only to those in the community screening program. Lanyards must be worn on campus.

Faculty

Noninstructional gatherings or meetings In-person meetings of faculty in the community screening program allowed. Food at indoor gatherings is allowed.
Work/research/internships with students on campus Allowed.
Faculty travel Domestic travel for research and scholarship allowed.
Student travel associated with faculty research Domestic travel for research and scholarship allowed.
Collections (museum, botanic gardens) Available by appointment.
Olin Fitness Center Not available to employees.
Visitors No external visitors allowed in campus buildings. Visitors for scholarly purposes may be allowed with permission of the provost or the COVID-19 Incident Response Team (CIRT).
Building access Available only to those in the community screening program. Lanyards must be worn on campus.

Staff

Administrative staff Remote work if possible. Campus work with permission of Cabinet member.
Meetings/gatherings In-person meetings of staff in the community screening program allowed. Food at indoor gatherings is permitted.
Travel No college-sponsored staff travel.
Olin Fitness Center Will be available to employees in the community testing program from July 6. Please see the Olin Fitness Center's hours of operation for details.
Campus Center Café Open M-F using GrubHub.
Visitors Visitors allowed for mission-critical work. Permission from Cabinet member.
Vendors and deliveries Per COVID Vendor Policy (PDF).
Building access Available only to those in the community screening program. Lanyards must be worn on campus.

Public Functions

Admissions Smith is offering limited campus tours. Please see the Admissions website for more information.

MacLeish Field Station Outdoor spaces open to the public. Classroom available for research and educational purposes by arrangement with CEEDS. Visit the MacLeish Field Station website for more information.
Libraries Library remains open only to campus community members in the community screening program. Visit the libraries website for more information.

Botanic Garden/Lyman Conservatory Please see the Botanic Garden website for more information.
Outdoor campus/gardens Open.
Outdoor athletics facilities Tennis courts may be accessed by current OneCard holders. All other facilities are open unless being used by an athletic team for practice, clinics or camps.
External events Smith College will not be hosting external events until October 1, 2021.
